does anyone know if there is anyone playing this kind of music professionally or otherwise on the Big Island?
also called Gypsy Swing or Jazz Manouche
began in France in the 1930s with DJango Reinhardt & Stephane Grapelli's Quintette de Hot Club de France
Guitar & violin usually take solo lead parts, the rhythm guitar usually replaces the drums using a "la pompe" technique
...kind of reminds me the music you hear the old Looney Tunes
They used DJango's "Minor Swing" in the movie Chocolat with Johnny Depp
Newer bands like Surfin DJangos and Le Chat Lunatique also play this style of music...

Sat, June 6, 2009 - 9:22 AMYou might look up Lola. She had a band playing Jazz in Hilo a while back. Her shop is that little "Love Boutique" on the main street in Pahoa. Last shop on the side with the Max Rest is hers. Tell her Big Dave says aloha.
