Silka Stauch is our east side neighbor and local yoga teacher who has been very sick for 3 months from Rat Lungworm Disease. She has been in Hilo hospital in a coma for an extended amount of time and needs our assistance. Please come and support her and donate what you can. All donations will go directly to Silka and her family.

Sat, March 21, 2009 - 5:22 PMWow I'm really sorry to hear about your friend! I know this post is old but I would highly suggest they have her transferred to Queen's on Oahu. They have real doctors there. The chances that Rat Lungworm is causing your friends symptoms is nearly impossible. The chances the woderful doctors in Hilo have incorrectly diagnosed your friend are highly possible. Rat Lungworm is exceedingly rare in humans and cases where it causes these symtoms do not exist. I'm not a doctor but I called my friend who is and explained your situation and he agrees...get her out of there and get a second opinion. -

Anyway - it's not the "chances" - it's the possibility - and read the whole story -
it's very sad.....
And it's more than one opinion.
and there is still a "chance" that she and the others will recover.
