I know this post is old but I would highly suggest they have her transferred to Queen's on Oahu. They have real doctors there. The chances that Rat Lungworm is causing your friends symptoms is nearly impossible. The chances the woderful doctors in Hilo have incorrectly diagnosed your friend are highly possible. Rat Lungworm is exceedingly rare in humans and cases where it causes these symtoms do not exist. I'm not a doctor but I called my friend who is and explained your situation and he agrees...get her out of there and get a second opinion.
