Has anyone checked out Peoplestring? http://www.peoplestring.com/?u=pono

It's free to sign up and offers all kinds of features that I (and probably most of us) use anyway. It seems to be a new startup social network / e mail service and a few other things that pays a percentage of the ad revenues to it's users. I did some searching for someone complaining about it, but I can't find any. Does anyone have any experience with it? Positive or negative.

Beware of Rich Friends

Aloha friends of the Eco-Ark Project. I will be heading back to the Eco-Ark soon, and will again enjoy the peace and serenity that only being cut off from civilization can provide. I would like to thank all of you who have supported out efforts over the last few years, and especially those who have been inspired to carry a part of our vision into your own local communities. our work will never truly be completed until the world comes together in re-establishing sustainable resource developments around the globe.

I am happy to announce the publication of two new E-book downloads that are now available. They chronicle the development of the vision that led to the establishing of the Eco-Ark in the Puna Rain Forest on the island of Hawaii. A long, strange, and mystical journey that began on The Great Peace March from Los Angeles, CA. to Washington D.C. in 1986. Sharing the inspiration I received at the '86 national Gathering of the Rainbow Family in Pennsylvania.
www.welcomehome.org/rainbow/main.html
And the mysterious happenings in the vortex region of Sedona AZ. Where I was recruited as a bodyguard for an heiress to one of America's Wealthiest families. They are full of tales of Mysterious, Humorous, and sometimes horrific occurrences and the people we met along the way.

"Beware of Rich Friends", and the sequel "It's How The Rich Stay Rich" continues the adventure five years later. With remembrances from the '95 gathering in Taos N.M. Living in an Earthship there. Then carrying the vision to the tropical island of Maui. And further struggles and victories in our attempt to create Sustainable Eco-communities in our island paradise. Culminating in the a final battle between the powers of light and darkness, and the grounding of the Eco-Ark vision.

Article from The Great Peace March 21st reunion
www.ojaipost.com/2007/11/g...in_d.shtml

Breakthrough to a New You!

I was introduced to Michael Benner by way of KLOS radio in Los Angeles in the early 80's. He had such an open minded and well rounded approach to problem solving and opportunities in life, that it had a profound effect on the direction I chose to take with my own life. My first trip to the Hawaiian Islands was to take an accelerated learning course taught by his (then) room-mate, Steven Snyder. Steven later became my hypnosis teacher and personal development mentor. Though I managed to move on to Maui first, as described in my books http://stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=2563481 they eventually worked their way to paradise as well. Now Michael does a weekly webcast from Maui, which anyone can listen in on for free. Also, on Sunday September 5, 2009 you can join Michael Benner, Steve Snyder, and Larry Czerwonka in beautiful Hilo, Hawaii for "Breakthrough to a New You!"

Throughout life, everyone plays various roles and characters, mostly to please or influence others. It begs the question, who’s the Real You?

* Why do you think, feel and behave the way you do?
* When you speak without thinking, who’s speaking?
* And, if you’re fooling yourself, who’s fooling who?

Join Michael Benner, Steve Snyder, and Larry Czerwonka in beautiful Hilo, Hawaii for a fascinating adventure into self-discovery and life management.

If you know John Corbin (flaming bagpipes) then here is a web address that you can get updates to and post your thoughts for John
http://www.egeekbme.com/portal/JohnCorbin.aspx
it's his daughter Wendi's and it keeps a post of how he is doing, which is not good. Be aware, the picture of John on the site is shocking because of his health concerns and the amount of weight he's lost.
If you sign in you can write something to him under "Shout at John", I logged in and it only took a moment to do so. I'm sure he would love to hear from his friends on the big island.

Anyone out there who likes reggae music might want to take advantage of my neighbors free offer. Their bands name is "Ras Sparrow" and at least for a limited time (if not forever), they are offering a free download of their latest recording "Zion Town". Ras Sparrow is one of the hottest up and coming reggae acts on the Big Island of Hawaii. Their first publically released recording "Good Seed" has gone up to #1 on island radio, and they are gaining quite a following locally. Radio stations on the other islands have discovered "Good Seed" as well, and they have been invited to play on Maui and Oahu later this year. So check them out and get your free download now while the offer still lasts.

The new sticker is here. YEY. *Fanfare*

ALOHA AINA
Malama Pono

Love the Land
Do the right(eous) thing

In order fully to appreciate Hawaiian culture, one must first understand its basic difference from western culture and eastern culture. Western culture is based, in large part, on what a person possesses. Eastern culture is based more on the person and one's desire to learn more about oneself. Hawaiian culture, however, like most Polynesian cultures, is based on the land.

The Kanaka Maoli (indigenous natives), are one with the land. The land which is the basis of the culture, with its streams, mountains, beaches and oceans, must be held in reverence and protected as it was in ancient times... The historical sites, burials, language, arts, dances, canoe migrations, etc., will have to be promoted, nurtured and preserved.

Native Hawaiian say, "We are at home. So many people who come here seem lost and emotionally or spiritually homeless. They keep moving, but they never really live anywhere. We love being in our place in the sea. We will never leave because we are this place"

This concept of totality with the land and with nature is essential to any understanding of Hawaiian culture and beliefs. Without an appreciation for this concept one cannot begin to understand the marvels of this unique and wonderful culture. Love of the land is at the heart of all Hawaiian customs, language, the hula, chants, mele (songs), popular music, art, history, geography, archeology, traditions, religion, and even politics. In short, we are discussing the intellectual and artistic achievements of this society.

Also, however, one cannot ignore the fact that Hawaiian culture is more than just the culture of the native Hawaiians, as significant as that culture is. The Hawaiian culture of today has been and continues to be influenced greatly by others who have come to these islands and have settled over the last two centuries. These immigrants - from England, the United States, Japan, China, the Philippines, and countless other places - have also had a profound effect on Hawaiian culture, and together with the Kanaka Maoli, make up the people of Hawaii today.

The native Hawaiians live with a sense of aloha. The word "aloha" consists of two parts. "Alo" means to share and "ha" means to breathe. Aloha means to share breath, and more precisely to share the breath of life.

GYpsy Jazz on the Big Island

does anyone know if there is anyone playing this kind of music professionally or otherwise on the Big Island?

also called Gypsy Swing or Jazz Manouche
began in France in the 1930s with DJango Reinhardt & Stephane Grapelli's Quintette de Hot Club de France
Guitar & violin usually take solo lead parts, the rhythm guitar usually replaces the drums using a "la pompe" technique
...kind of reminds me the music you hear the old Looney Tunes
They used DJango's "Minor Swing" in the movie Chocolat with Johnny Depp
Newer bands like Surfin DJangos and Le Chat Lunatique also play this style of music...

if you or anyone you know of is playing this style of music- please post

I love bees! used Bee equipment please?

Aloha,
A family of honey bees moved into some yard art in my yard (a rusty old landrover) and I'm considering supplying them with a cleaner home than their current one...the back end of the underneath side of a rusty car just doesn't sound too yummy! I've always wanted to host an apiary, and what a great gift from the universe!
I've done a lot of reading, and I'm hoping to locate some used bee equipment for reasonable price/trade. Here are a few things i would consider:
bee smoker
bee hood
bee suit
Hives or hive pieces (supers/cover/brood box/trap door thingy)
Anything else?

Please message me if you have any info i should read (maybe i missed something) or gear you want to get rid of...
Love,
Erin

hello kindred island lovees

my partner, roberto, and i are trying to manifest a very sweet amazing house-sitting gig near the ocean (Oceanview area if possible), or anywhere, to spend the last weeks of our time on the island. We are happy doing work trade where we are but if we could be somewhere drier, sunnier, without hours, and more ocean breeze... we would love to. We're open to paying rent as long as it can be short term and affordable ($100/week about)... We're a cute, responsible, and loving couple.... just want a love-space to be in retreat in together...

please let us know, here or by calling 347-291-4757 if you hear or know of anything...

thanks for reading this and adding to the manifestation energy!

mahalo... love... and dancing smiling hugs

selling my cute ecstatic puna car (buy me!)

Alas, I am leaving the island and selling my cute little car. It will be available in late February, early March. It is a great, trusty island car, it is a happy and healthy car and I really love it.

I bought it in August from an owner in Kona. It has run very smoothly and had one major trip to the mechanic, in mid January. The water pump was leaking, so it has a BRAND NEW water pump, BRAND NEW hose, BRAND NEW timing belt, AND thermostat. Tune up, oil change, the works. And is running great. (This work cost me over $500.) And all problems are fixed.

I have all the paperwork, the car is security inspected until October 2009 (which means you can ride it without paying the inspection for a few months!), and I have all the documents up to date.

The car is a cute color, is dry inside and does NOT smell like mold, does not leak, and has excellent brakes. The one thing that doesn't work on it is having the (hot) air come out of the windshield defroster holes, the air only comes out the center vents. (I bought it this way and have managed without fixing it). Exterior a little scratched and some small dents.

Asking price, for car AS IS: $2000 or Best Offer

please email me if you'd like to see it and/or make an offer
or call me at 347-291-4757 :)

Specs:

1997 Dodge Neon

4 doors
automatic transmission
roll-down windows
tinted windows
removable front radio/tape deck/clock (nice)
grape exterior, grey interior
116,000 miles
new waterpump, timing belt, thermostat, recent oil change (jan 2009)
all paperwork in order, no hidden fines
milage: 34+ mpg in town

I am happy to give more info to anyone interested, via email or otherwise. Please contact me if you're interested, this is a great little island car, trusty and reliable, good smelling, with lots of good love and energy from her current owners.

I will hand it over vaccuumed and clean for your convenience.

Mahalo and Please contact me if you're interested :) (see craigslist post for pictures, or email for more: http://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/cto/1028571346.html)

This land is alive and well and ready to host somebody who wants to live with it and have a great experience. There are goats and chickens to tend to, trees to look after, weeds to compost, etc. The cabin is a hexagon frramed with Ohia from the land, gravity water in the sink, composting toilet outside, screened, sweet spot to live, just outside of Pahoa. Nothing luxurious, but ample and comfortable for sure, depending on your needs, of course. Looking for 10hrs/week, and am open and flexible. The work will consist of typical homesteading tasks, light carpentry, digging holes, fence maintenance, weeding, watering, clearing, chainsawing, etc. Must be self motivated and able to work alone. This won't be just a free place to stay. There's amazing potential for the right person. I am open to couples too.

Directions to the 2009 Feb 1-13 Hawai'i Rainbow Gathering

2009 Hawaii Rainbow Family of Light Gathering.. Will be Feb. 1st - 13Th on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Site is a beautiful beach front site that needs our love and care-- years of beach debrie is all over this magical Paradise. We will continue our duty on earth as one human race to be its care taker. Please bring contractor garbage bags and work gloves, to help restore the natural pristine beauty of our sacred earth.

MA LAMA ANIA KOKUA!! ANUI NUI OHANA

A high Clarence van or truck or 4x4 with a confident and knowable driver is needed for this 1 hour + , about 6 mile adventure. From HILO 11 Hwy past Naalehu watch mile markers make a LEFT on Ka'alualu Rd. after mile marker 65. pass subdivision till you get to a dart Rd. go stright down to Ka' alualu Bay (one hour +) go around to point and up the coast line Rd. Through bulldozed Lava Field. Too Kamio Point you will see signs to PARK... Please park off the road..And NOT on BEACH!!

metta's directions: I haven't made this drive in a couple of years, but the route I recommend is this: hitch or take the Hele-On bus to the start of South Point Rd. Take south point rd toward south point, but turn left just after the farmhouse (it used to be painted blue), if you go too far south past the wind turbines, you've gone too far. On this route, there are three gates. Please close these after you pass. Drive slow and carefully, and avoid the deep ruts. 2 years ago, the condition of this route was far better than the condition of the route that goes south from mark twain subdivision. This route leads to Ka'alu'alu bay, from there drive north east along the coast beyond the lava field. Hopefully welcome home signs will be posted soon. Good luck!

Hawaii gatherings are Rainbow family reunions the atract 60-120 people from the islands and our exstended world family.

gosh it would appear that my good friend whom I normally stay with whenever I return home to Oahu is not around this year. I bought tickets for myself and my boyfriend a bit rashly perhaps, but a girl gets excited and so I bought 'em and now I find out she's not around! Nooooooooooo. So I am thinking instead of going to Oahu and seeing no one that i care about and not that much that I am interested in because i used to live there and instead come to the Big Island to visit some folks that showed me what Big Island Love's all about some years ago when you all (or some of you anyway ::nod to sprocket::) threw a kick ass beach party for a good friend of mine when we came to visit for her birthday several years ago. Since then I have been obsessed with the big island and have told the story multiple times about the most magical night I ever spent (again, nod to Sprocket) on the big Island.

So here I am with tickets to hawaii and no place and nobody to see, so I was thinking of getting some tickets and coming over to the big island. I have some lava tubes I need to explore, but we need a place to stay (be it inexpensive Hotel or house to rent) a car to rent and a bunch of other stuff to figure out before I buy the inner island ticket.

What's a girl to do.

Aloha to all,

Woo hoo! My man and I are going to be galavanting around the big island for a week or so in late Jan.

We're looking for beautiful, chill, affordable places to stay.

Cottages, bungalows, rooms with big windows, spots on organic farms -- all would be great!!

We'd also like to stop in at some permaculture farms to visit.

Any ideas for us?

THANKS!

trying to network! Help me make the move..SF to Hawai

I have been putting up posts on Hawaii tribes cuz I am really trying to make an opportunity for myself that would help me make a move to there. I am a 30-smthing woman and I just got back to San Francisco after 2 years living and traveling in Brazil! Its quite a shock and I realize, I don't really want to be starting over here.. If I have to start over somewhere I would so much rather have to do it in Hawaii.. But I am without connections there..

My situation is kinda intense insomuch as that even if I could make it to Hawaii, I would be arriving with pretty much no money or support there. I guess if I do this, I would need a place to stay for awhile as I get my bearings and find work. It would be pretty much impossible if I don't make an arrangement beforehand for some place to go and create community/support.
Many have suggested an organic farming community- working in exchange for housing and food. I would be into that, but no one I have written has contacted me yet with any news that there are positions/opportunities available.
Also, Are jobs even possible to find right now with this economic crisis??
If you have any suggestions or know any communities there that would welcome a girl and help her get on her feet, I would love to know!
Or if you know anyone who might know , please forward them this email!
Peace,
Alexis

the HEMF6 loco-motive is rolling into action. the dates are set for Jan 8-11 2009. i've booked our usual juice venues, shaka's in pahoa, the mixx in kona and the historic palace theater for our gala ball saturday nite. i'm putting together a sweet line up of djs & artists for major dance floor booty action. the stunning visual magic comes courtesy of maui's trevor arnoldt and jim abrams from oahu. oh and the fabulous dancers of giinko marischino from oahu confirmed their participation which makes me happy like a little girl.

thanks for your encouragement and support. i'll keep you posted and love you all.

I am thinking about heading out to the islands for the holidays and want to stick around for the HEMF on Big I in January. Anything happening on New Years Eve? I am not talking the normal drunken bar shindig, but a conscious activated DJ dance party intentional celebration. Anything brewing? Or am i thinking way too fast and far ahead for the aloha ohana vibe. I miss my island family and can think of no where else I would like to call in the new year. Much love....

OCT 31, Zombie march

The Zombie March is ON!

Friday, October 31st, Halloween.
10:00 AM (yes, in the MORNING)
Meet at the Bandstand (we have it reserved) dressed and ready to
devour the flesh of the living.

This is a "Flash Mob" event. We will meet at the bandstand, dressed
as Zombies (please do your makeup before you get there), and then
procede to stagger/stumble/walk through downtown Hilo, confusing and
freaking people out. The route and general guidelines will be
provided when we meet. We will reconvene at the Bandstand, where we
will all do the "Thriller" dance (start learning the moves at
youtube). Then we will go home. In and out, nobody gets hurt.

SPREAD the WORD!! If it looks like we're gonna have a decent turnout,
I will let the newspaper know what's up, so we can get some news
coverage. I would love to see this develop into a recurring event.

VICTIMS needed! I would love to have a few "victims" planted along
the March Route. A poor, innocent bystander gets overwhelmed by a
group of savage Zombies. While they're surrounded by Zombies, they
quickly apply some makeup/blood, and become "one of us". If you would
like to play this crucial role, let me know!

This is all for fun, and is not sponsored by any organization. We
will take care not to break any laws or cause any real disruption. We
want to entertain, confuse, and delight the people we encounter. We
do NOT want to offend, assault, or upset anyone.

If you think you can participate, PLEASE let me know! If you have any
more ideas, or if you would like to help organize, PLEASE let me know.
If you think this is a stupid idea, keep it to yourself!!

Randy

We don't need anything fancy, just a reliable and affordable car to use. We would love to talk to anyone with any ideas.

I am a Virgin Island boy and I found myself in Miami its not very nice In any way but the Weather. I need to get back to an Island, The prejudice is real bad in the VI I have wanted to move to Hawaii since I was A little kid, , I am a light golden color of mixed race so I don't perceive any problem from that SMALL STRAIN OF Hawaiian INTOLERANCE..Which in my studies seems to be the greatest on the big Island . And I go and see for my self but then there's more and a loss of time...
Because AM SHORE I want to live in Either Maui Or THE BI

I like big, but there seems to be more work for a photographer / Artist.. So why the big Island other then price and land availability.

Hello beautiful people,
My name is Reed, and I have recently (three week ago) moved back to Hawai'i from San Francisco (Mom needs help around the house). No Burning Man for me this year:-( Mom comes first:-)
I was hoping that someone out there might know of, or help me in finding some steady, reliable employment in the Pahoa, Hilo area.
I am a very hard worker, that is dependable, and I am very good with my hands. I am very easy going, and I follow direction very well.
I promise I wont make you look bad if you refer me to a friend or coworker.
I am looking for something in the renewable energy field (solar), but will consider many other avenues of employment.
Much Mahalo.

Here is my resume...

Objective
To establish a career in a company wherein my concern for the environment and experiences in construction may be applied and where I can make an important contribution and be part of the solution to the company’s growth and development.

Work Experience
I have worked in various aspects of the (union) heating and air conditioning industry for over eight years. I have a great deal of experience in the design, installation, and servicing of residential, commercial HVAC systems.
While in the Coast Guard attached to Group San Francisco, I was assigned to the ANT (Aids to Navigation) Team on Yeba Buena Island. For two (2) years I was devoted to the maintenance and repair of small aids to navigation (buoys) and lighthouses. Most of my work involved designing, building, trouble shooting, and repairing solar systems. Areas of my responsibilities range from Humbolt Bay to Morro Bay, Farallon Islands to the inland waterways of the central California deltas, and Lake Tahoe.

Work History

US Coast Guard
New York
1993-1994
Law enforcement
Search and rescue
San Francisco
1995-1996
Aids to Navigation Team

Ocean Side Sheet Metal
1997-1998
While working for Ocean Side I gained a lot of experience working on gutters and
flashing.

Gaffiigan Sheet Metal
1998-2001
While working for Gaffigan I was a part of the installation department. most of my work was dealing with designing, and installing water heater, furnace, and air conditioning systems.

Four Seasons Air Conditioning & Heating
2001-2004
While working for the Four Seasons I learned a lot about being a team leader, and how to manage a crew of two to five workers.

Selco Air Conditioning & Heating
2004-2008
While working for Selco I had the opportunity to run my own job sites. Drawing plans, ordering material, and managing personnel where some of my responsibility.
S.F.F.D.

I am also looking to network, and meet some new friend.
If any one needs help getting ready for Burning Man, drop me a line. I would be more that willing to give you a hand (for free of course).

Thank you so much for spending the time to look this over. I hope you can help me.
Take care.

Warning, Hippies take note!

Yeah yeah, Henna is not just for hippies! But seriously, keep this in mind when you get your henna and remember, the brown looks better than the black anyway:

--------------------

Black Henna Tattoo Chemical Can Cause Skin Reaction

Additive to popular markings puts wearers at risk for allergic dermatitis, eczema, scarring, dermatology group warns.
-- Robert Preidt

(HealthDay News) -- Black henna tattoos contain a chemical called para-phenylenediamine (PPD) that can cause serious skin reactions, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) warns.

The popular black henna tattoos are sold everywhere from summer carnivals and open-air malls to vacation spots and cruise ships.

PPD, commonly used for black hair dye, is added to natural henna in order to increase the intensity and longevity of the temporary tattoo. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration prohibits the direct application of PPD to the skin because of known health risks. However, lack of regulation of the tattoo industry means people are getting black henna tattoos and putting themselves at risk for serious skin problems.

"Perhaps the most alarming issue we are seeing with black henna tattoos is the increase in the number of children -- even children as young as four -- who are getting them and experiencing skin reactions," Dr. Sharon E. Jacob, assistant clinical professor of pediatrics and medicine (dermatology) at the University of California, San Diego, said in an AAD news release.

She presented her findings at the AAD's summer meeting in Chicago last week.

"Kids make up a significant portion of the population that receives temporary tattoos, because parents mistakenly think they are safe, since they are not permanent and are available at so many popular venues catering to families. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth," Jacob said.

To date, there have been hundreds of reports of black tattoos causing allergic contact dermatitis, with reactions ranging from mild eczema to blistering and permanent scarring, she noted. Signs of an allergic reaction include redness and itching, bumps, swelling and blisters. Topical steroids can stop the allergic reaction.

Jacob added that some people can become sensitized to PPD from just one exposure and develop a lifelong sensitivity to PPD, along with an allergy that can cause a cross reaction to other compounds, including certain medications.

"Each exposure to PPD re-challenges the immune system, so each time you get a black henna tattoo or use a hair dye that contains PPD, there is an increased risk of having a reaction," Jacob said. "Many people are sensitized to PPD, but don't have a reaction to it. However, each time you are exposed to black henna, you increase your risk of developing a lifelong allergy to it."

If you want to get a henna tattoo, make sure that it's only vegetable henna, not PPD-adulterated henna.

"Unless the artist can tell you exactly what's in the tattoo, don't get one," Jacob said.

What Does Puna Need?

Aloha,
Here's our deal -- my partner and I live in San Francisco. Years ago my partner lived in Hawaii and eventually had to move to the mainland. We're at a point in our lives now where we want to follow our dream and return to Hawaii. Two years ago we purchased a small plot of land where we hope to live one day. We've traveled to many places and always find our heart longing to be in Puna. It's time to realize this dream. We want to become members of the community and open a small business that would support the community and fill a need. Whatever this may be it must reflect our belief that the business must fulfill our need to support ourselves while being socially conscious and giving back to the community. The question is what does Puna need?

We have experience working in a co-op environment, supporting non-profit organizations, and being active members in the community. Our career paths include experience in IT, management, marketing, event planning, as well as graphic and web design. But we're not limited to these areas and will consider many different options (service, retail, etc).

Your honest input and guidance is much appreciated. We believe in putting this intention out to the universe and perhaps this is the vehicle to help manifest our dream.

Mahalo!

Aloha friends of the Eco-Ark Project. I will be heading back to the Eco-Ark soon, and will again enjoy the peace and serenity that only being cut off from civilization can provide. I would like to thank all of you who have supported our efforts over the last few years, and especially those who have been inspired to carry a part of our vision into your own local communities.

"Beware of Rich Friends", is a long, strange, and mystical journey that began on The Great Peace March
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Peace_March_for_Global_Nuclear_Disarmament
from Los Angeles, CA. to Washington D.C. in 1986. Sharing the inspiration I received at the '86 national Gathering of the Rainbow Family in Pennsylvania.
http://www.welcomehome.org/rainbow/main.html
And the mysterious happenings in the vortex region of Sedona AZ. Where I was recruited as a bodyguard for an heiress to one of America's Wealthiest families. They are full of tales of Mysterious, Humorous, and sometimes horrific occurrences and the people we met along the way.

The sequel "With Friends Like This" continues the adventure five years later.

PS and an added shout out to all my old friends on Maui. I know many of you were there when all this was happening. Hope you don't mind being included in the book. Aloha!

Ohia Octagon near Pahoa for Rent

Rent- $800

I built my 21' diameter octagon from the trees on the land here. There are a couple bumpouts off the main space for bed, closet, greenhouse. The place is comletely off grid, with new solar system, new 10,000 gallon water catchment, propane water heater, propane fridge, internet, big organic garden, loads of privacy, it's on 75 acres, and only a mile from Pahoa Town.
If you like to garden, or tend animals, (we have goats and chickens), that is available to you.
No utilities, just cost of propane.
The place is perfect for a couple or one person looking for privacy and a fairly cushy homesteading style life.

Heading to the mainland for fall/winter. Looking to rent the place until end of Dec. Longer maybe. Available Aug. 20th Write me with any questions. I have plenty of pics I can send.

This is a beautiful piece of land that is cared for and maintained through our love of the land and our desire for a self-sufficent, sustainable lifestyle.
We are living our dream here and maybe you can too for a while.

Experience with off grid living a plus
Hawaii County rejects marijuana eradication program

Aloha from Berlin, this news bit just hit my mailbox and made me very happy. Vote for Angel Pilago!

HILO, Hawaii -- Hawaii County Councilman Angel Pilago says the council's
rejection of a marijuana eradication program is part of a move to retain
power that had been ceded to the state and federal governments.

The council this past week turned down federal and state money used to fund
"Green Harvest," an annual marijuana eradication program begun 30 years ago
on the Big Island.

Many residents have opposed the program, saying the low-flying helicopter
missions invade privacy and disrupt rural life. Critics also say it has done
little to eradicate marijuana over the past three decades and has even
promoted use of other drugs, such as crystal methamphetamine, or "ice."

This year's tab of $441,000 included federal and state funds, as well as
$53,000 in matching funds from the county budget.

Earlier this month, the council voted 5-3 to accept the money, but that vote
was deemed invalid because the required legislation wasn't published in
local newspapers, as required by law.

At Wednesday's meeting, Pilago, the North Kona councilman and mayoral
candidate who supported the program in the past, changed his position.

The move, along with one council member's absence, resulted in a 4-4 tie and
the failure of the legislation.

"This will have long-term impacts," Pilago said. "When we institute programs
we, the county government, need to look at if they are detrimental to
people's rights and the health and safety of the community. That's what we
do."

Public testimony has been overwhelmingly opposed to the "Green Harvest"
program over the years.

And now the grass roots Project Peaceful Sky group has started a petition
drive to make the enforcement of marijuana laws the police department's
lowest priority. The group says it has about 3,000 of the 10,000 signatures
needed to get the initiative on the November ballot.

"That has major long-term implications for us all," said Pilago, who has
signed the petition. "It's a huge issue for me. It echoes the basic
principles of our democracy. This is really the people's choice and the
people's voice, and that doesn't happen all the time at the county level."

Pilago said he hopes the issue is the beginning of a shift in Hawaii
County's governing principles.

"It's about home rule," he said. "The county must be assertive and
aggressive and not defer certain powers to the state and federal
governments. We must not cede those powers."

Mayor Harry Kim previously has said he supports medical marijuana, but also
believes the law should be upheld.

"My position is no secret," he said. "I support eradication, as long as it's
done in a way that is not harmful to people who should not be harmed, as far
as noise and catchment systems and all those concerns. I'm against all
drugs. Marijuana is an illegal drug."

The first eradication effort was in 1978, when some marijuana growers were
known to carry weapons or set up combat-style booby traps.

By the 1990s, council-members expressed reservations about the helicopter
missions. In 2000, they rejected $265,000 in federal eradication funds,
two-thirds of the program's money that year. But the following year, they
once again accepted the full amount offered.
